Some courses on learnins offer live webinars to deepen the acquired knowledge and exchange with fellow learners.
The webinar tool used on learnins is called “BigBlueButton” (BBB). Webinars in BBB can be accessed via any browser and device and no installation of additional applications is required.
After you have entered a course, you can identify BBB webinars by the blue “b” icon:
As always, click on the title to access the activity. Next, you will see an overview page that informs you about the date and time of upcoming sessions and displays past recordings if there are any. If the webinar room is open, a button to “Join session” will appear:
After you have joined, you still need to configure some technical details.
1. First, you need to choose if you want to enable your microphone or only listen in. Usually, you want to be able to communicate with the other participants and would therefore join with microphone.
2. If you have chosen to activate your microphone, your browser might send you an additional notification in which you need to confirm that BBB is allowed to access your audio:
Translation: blindsidenetworks.com (=BBB) wants to: access microphone -> approve / dismiss.
Here you should also approve the access to the microphone.
3. If you are connected to several audio or microphone sources (e.g., one via Bluetooth and another via the device itself), you might need to choose the source of input and output as well:
Click on “Join audio” to complete the configuration.
Now you should be able to see the whole BBB room.
As you can see in the default presentation, BBB webinars give you several options for participation:
On the right side of your screen, you can see the participants in the room, the chat, and shared notes from the session.
On the bottom of the page, you can change the layout, (un)mute yourself, enable your camera, minimize the presentation, and raise your hand.
On the top, you can minimize the chat and participant block, start a recording (if this option has been enable and you have the need permission) and on the very right side access some additional settings via the dotted menu.
To leave the session, just close your tab or window.
